April Update from Dr. Ron Stewart, Interim Pastor

The seasons are changing again. We are moving from winter to spring. The trees that were robbed of their leaves by the cold winds of winter are now reaching out to the warmth of the spring sunshine. Soon we will see the birth of new life and new growth everywhere. Solomon, the wisest man who ever lived, said, “There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under heaven.” (Ecclesiastes 3:1).

Madison Avenue B.C. is going through a season of change in 2017. The church is not only going through a change from winter to spring, it’s also going through a radical change spiritually. The pastoral leadership has changed. The preaching has changed. The church as you knew it just a few months ago, has changed dramatically. How these changes will impact the church in the future is unknown. The one thing we all know is that the church is changing.

One church growth leader said, “The one thing a church must do to grow is change, and the last thing most churches are willing to do is change.” Solomon teaches us that we don’t have a choice when it comes to changing times. The seasons change from winter to spring whether we like it or not. Most of us resist change but no one can stop our world from changing.

I have discovered that many of the changes in my life have been defining moments when God wanted to make a course correction in my life. Instead of resisting or fearing the changing seasons in my life, I look for reasons to be excited about them. I have learned that God will use the changing times to keep me in the center of his will.

Solomon gives us the wisdom we need for the changing times we are all facing today. He teaches us how our unchanging God, in our changing world, keeps us in his perfect will. “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.” (Proverbs 3:5-6)
